Pagan's Playground: Poem by Joseph Danoski

Pagan's Playground

Joseph Danoski

You've been straying

And playing on a pagan's playground,

Where the upside-down and the lost were found;

Amid the dawn in the aftermath of battle,

With sacrificial lambs and slaughtered cattle.

You've been living

And dying on damnation's playground,

Slowly rebuilding the burial mound;

Where your founding fathers did long ago falter,

Bowing down to idols on a black altar.

All the golden gateways to temptation,

All the pleasures lying naked waiting;

With unseen powers, and evil flowers

Sent by way of invitation.

Now your children

Congregate on the rocks for concerts,

With the gods they worship upon their shirts.

Getting down,

Rowdy and loud in their rebellion;

Because what goes around always comes around,

Dancing in Pandemonium on pagan's playground.
