Death Metal: Poem by Stephanie Smith

DEATH METAL

Stephanie Smith

My body writhes to the twisted din

I dance to the hidden rhythm of sin so exquisite

The nightmare emerges

lusting for flesh and blood,

screaming for sanctuary from the rooftops

where suicidals plunge

I beckon to its call

I listen to the grave's forgotten love song

rotting in my ear

The night is alive

with the smell of murder and alcohol,

a fallen angel disemboweled and looted for her jewels

The discordant death rattle surrounds me

She plays the tune so perfectly

And I am reduced to tears
